It is with great sadness that the Maple Leaf Athletic Club has lost one of its long standing Alumni members and past presidents. On Sunday, August 14th, 2016, Allen John Osmak of Edmonton passed away at the age of 79 years. Al was a great inspiration to our club and will be sadly missed.

Al was an MLAC Executive for over 30 consecutive years, and also held positions with NEZ and Hockey Alberta.

Thank you for your many years of volunteered service and building the MLAC club to where it is today.

The MLAC executive, Alumni and families send our condolences to the Osmak family.

BANTAM AAA TRYOUT SCHEDULE

Hello MLAC families. Please see below the schedule for the Bantam AAA tryouts. Players will be assigned to a tryout team at a date closer to the beginning of tryouts so please keep checking the website for further details. PLEASE NOTE that times and arenas are subject to change.

Between June 1 and the 1st day of tryouts, the tryout fee is refundable minus a $40 administration fee if notice is given, in writing, to MLAC Registrar Liz Huston prior to the 1st day of tryouts.  Once tryouts begin this fee is non-refundable.

SSAC tryouts commence on August 28thto September 1st. Times to be announced.

Once SSAC has completed their tryouts, players that have been selected from both clubs will be notified which team they will be on for the combined tryouts. The combined tryout schedule starts on Thursday September 1st and will go until Saturday September 3rd. Arena and times to be announced at a later date.

The Bantam AAA draft day will be Monday, September 5th at a predetermined place and time at which the hockey directors and coaching staff from each club will attend to draft their teams. Players will be notified by their coaches which team they were drafted to.

Bantam AA tryouts will start Tuesday August 30th at Castledowns B. Times to be announced at a later date.

Midget Tryouts will start Sunday September 4th at Castledowns A. Times to be announced at a later date.

Maple Leaf Athletic Club Boundaries:
North of the North Saskatchewan River and East of 97 Street
Inclusive of Edmonton Garrison base residents.
Exclusive of the communities known as Rossdale, Spruce Avenue, Westwood, Rosslyn and Griesbach (that are part of the Northeast District).

Additional to club is:
South of the North Saskatchewan River and East of 91 Street to 41st Ave S.W. or known as the South East Edmonton hockey area.

Also

2016-17 Hockey Edmonton Boundary Adjustments and Player Registration a) Rather than continuing past practice of having players from the district participate with two different athletic clubs, all Southeast District players born in: i) 1999, 2000, or 2001 looking to play for a team playing within the Hockey Alberta ADM Model (Major Midget AAA, and Minor Midget AAA) will register for with the Maple Leaf Athletic Club (MLAC), with the exception of those who played for a South Side Athletic Club (SSAC) team in 2015-16.

ii) 2002 or 2003 looking to play for a team playing within the Hockey Alberta: (1) ADM Model (Bantam AAA) will register with the Maple Leaf Athletic Club (MLAC), inclusive of all those that played with a South Side Athletic Club (SSAC) team in 2015-16.

(2) AA Model will register with the Maple Leaf Athletic Club (MLAC) with the exception of those are protected by a grandfathered sibling player agreement.

Bantam AAA 2016-2017 Season:

This season, 2016-2017, Hockey Edmonton with approval of the four athletic clubs will combine Bantam AAA players.  SSAC will combine with MLAC and CAC will combine with KC.  Starting this year MLAC and SSAC will combine players to make two Bantam AAA teams. Players not chosen for a Bantam AAA team will move back to their respective clubs within their home boundaries.

Major AAA: Dan St . Jacques

Midget AA: Brad Hepple

Minor Midget AAA:  Travis Gibson - Native to the Edmonton Area, Travis brings a decade of coaching and training experience with him. Most notably, joining MLAC after serving as an Assistant Coach for the Whitecourt Wolverines in the AJHL during their best season in franchise history. Travis has also been involved with MLAC before at the Bantam AAA level and also CAC at the Minor Midget AAA level, seeing success at levels. Aside from running his own hockey development business, Travis has been involved with Edmonton Minor Hockey in many levels ranging from Hockey Academy's to off-season player development. Currently living in the city with his Fiance and soon to be married, Travis is excited for the upcoming season and cannot wait for training camp to open.

Bantam AAA: Brayden Toma - Brayden came to us from Sherwood Park minor hockey last season coaching our one and only Bantam AA and did a tremendous job helping the players and organization on changing the losing ways to Winning ways and at the same time helping the players improve their individual and team skills for their future in the MLAC organization.


Bantam AA: Mason Hawkes - Mason played 5 seasons for the South Side Athletic Club and just recently completed his first season as a head coach. Over the past year Mason has coached the Peewee AA Seera Stealth, the 2003 AAA Jr. Oil King’s Blue team, and assistant coached for Zone 8 of the Alberta Winter Games. He has been coaching for various organizations for the past 5 seasons and looks forward to helping our organization continue driving forward in developing hockey players, and creating a winning culture.

Bantam AA: Rob Dellaire - I've coached in Edmonton for the past 13 years. Coaching teams from Novice to Minor Midget AAA. I've been part of the coaching staff for teams at Alberta Winter Games and Alberta Cup.  My goal as a coach is to use my experience and knowledge to develop each kids individual and team skills for the future.
